Most children’s chairs of this type that you see today are mid to late 19th century, with either very few turnings or with bamboo turnings.
This one, having the desirable vase and ring turnings, is a Rhode Island creation dating from c. 1780-95.
Victorian black paint was laboriously dry-scraped to reveal its original white.
