Pair of Creamware
Pair of Creamware

A lovely late 18th or early 19th century pair of plates with an unusual painted border and a central circle showing a lady sitting on the rocks holding an anchor while she watches her lover's ship sail out to sea. It has been said that this represents Emma Hamilton when she said good-bye to Lord Nelson as he went off to battle. Her hair and dress style would certainly fit with what is known about Emma.

Each plate measures 8 3/8" diameter. They are in very good condition with only a couple of minor rim chips.
